Project Background

As demand grows across Chile and Latin America for smarter community security and urban infrastructure, our client required more than a conventional lighting pole — they needed a true multi-function platform combining illumination, video surveillance, two-way intercom communication, and emergency alert capability into a single integrated structure. To accommodate different installation environments, the solution needed to support both grid-connected and fully off-grid solar power configurations.

The Solution

Kototerk’s engineering team designed and delivered two versions of a smart security pole to meet the client’s varying site conditions:

•             Solar (Off-Grid) Version — fully self-powered with onboard photovoltaic panels, ideal for sites without reliable grid access

•             Grid-Powered Version — directly connected to mains power, with a more compact equipment cabinet for sites where grid access is available

Both versions share the same core structural design and feature set, differing primarily in power supply method and equipment cabinet size — allowing the client to standardize on one platform while flexibly deploying across different site conditions.

Integrated Functional Modules

The pole integrates a complete smart security and municipal service feature set:

•             Video Surveillance — front-mounted PTZ camera plus bullet camera, secured on 50×80×2.5mm square-tube mounts

•             Two-Way Intercom — front-facing video intercom screen with 3× Cat6 cable connections

•             Emergency Call — dedicated “EMERGENCY” panel with one-touch alarm function

•             Public Broadcasting — speaker/horn module with IP audio over network cable

•             Signal Light — rear-mounted status indicator light

•             Information Display — 480×220mm advertising/information light box

•             USB Interface — for public charging/data access

•             Centralized Equipment Management — all device cabling (PoE switch, cameras, intercom, speaker, etc.) routed into a single equipment cabinet for simplified maintenance

Structural Design Highlights

•             Square-tube pole structure provides strong rigidity, well suited to windy coastal conditions common in South America

•             Ground cage and bottom flange follow standardized bolt-hole patterns, secured with 4× M22 bolts for fast on-site installation

•             Solar and grid versions share a unified main structure, differing only in equipment cabinet size and rooftop solar components — enabling flexible site-by-site selection while simplifying manufacturing and spare-parts inventory
